Vinicunca, famously known as Rainbow Mountain, has exploded onto the travel scene in recent years, becoming one of Peru’s most sought-after destinations. Hidden deep within the Vilcanota mountain range, the mountain’s surreal, multi-colored slopes look like they were painted by a giant brush. The striking colors are a result of complex mineral deposits exposed over time.
The High-Altitude Hike
The journey to Rainbow Mountain is as challenging as it is beautiful. The trailhead begins at an extreme altitude, and the summit viewpoint stands at an oxygen-deprived 5,200 meters (17,060 feet).
