Day 1: Into the Heights
Cusco - Soraypampa - Humantay Lake - SoyroccochaThe first day of the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu begins with an early departure from Cusco, leading to Soraypampa at 3,900 meters (12,795 feet). This high-altitude location, framed by the towering Salkantay and Humantay peaks, serves as the perfect starting point for the adventure. The trek’s first highlight is the ascent to the breathtaking Humantay Lake, where turquoise waters contrast against snow-capped mountains, offering stunning photo opportunities and a deep connection with nature.
