Short Inca Trail 2027: bookings are open – how reserving works
Hi everyone, Juan from Salas Travel here. We are now taking bookings for the Short Inca Trail in 2027, and the same questions reach us every week. Here are the answers in one place.
How much do I pay to reserve a 2027 date?
For 2027 departures you reserve with 40% of the tour price. That holds your place with us while we wait for the permit sales to open.
When do you buy my permit?
Inca Trail permits are sold by Peru's Ministry of Culture, and sales do not open for the whole year at once. We buy your permit as soon as the Ministry opens sales for your month.
When is my date guaranteed?
Your date is guaranteed when the permit is issued. Until then it is a reservation, not a permit, and we will tell you as soon as yours is issued.
Why book this early?
The Km 104 route, used by the Short Inca Trail and the 1-day Inca Trail, has a quota of 250 people per day, including guides and staff. When a date is full, nobody else can hike it.
Can I hike in February?
No. The Inca Trail closes every February for maintenance, so there are no departures that month.
What about my passport?
- Send us your details exactly as they appear in the passport you will travel with.
- The permit is issued for one date and one passport. It cannot be changed, transferred or refunded. If you want a different date, a new permit has to be bought, if there is space.
- If you renew your passport before the trip, tell us: only the passport number can be updated.
- Bring the original passport. It is checked at the Km 104 checkpoint, at the Machu Picchu entrance and when boarding the train.
Where can I read more?
Our Short Inca Trail permits page explains the rules in detail, and the Short Inca Trail 2-day tour page shows the full itinerary.
