Overview

This half-day walking tour is a simple way to understand how Cusco’s Inca city and colonial city fit together. With a professional bilingual guide and a group of up to 12 travelers, you walk from the Plaza de Armas to San Pedro Market, along Inca streets to the twelve-angled stone and up to the San Blas neighborhood. It suits your first days in Cusco, when it is wise to keep activity light while your body adjusts to the altitude.

Highlights of the walk

  • Plaza de Armas: the starting point to explain the city’s Inca foundations and its colonial transformation. The historic center has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as the City of Cuzco, since 1983.
  • San Pedro Market: a working market where people from Cusco buy their food every day.
  • Hatun Rumiyoc and the twelve-angled stone: about 200 m from the Plaza de Armas, this diorite block sits in the wall of what was the palace of Inca Roca, the sixth Inca ruler. The building now houses the Archbishop’s Palace and the Museum of Religious Art.
  • San Blas: artisan workshops, viewpoints and narrow lanes, where the walk ends with local recommendations for the rest of your stay.

Depending on opening hours and the group’s pace, the guide may also show you Qorikancha from the outside.

Who this tour is for

Travelers who want orientation on their first day, people interested in history and architecture, and families who prefer a short outing without long drives. You only need to be able to walk at a gentle pace on uneven streets.

Best time to go
